When men and women sign up to be police officers, they accept the notion they are putting their lives on the line. Considering that, they are all heroes, whether their heroics make the papers or not. One hero, Ryan Edmonds, a Chisago County Sheriff’s Deputy, played a huge part in saving a young man’s life in mid February.
Edmonds responded to a call of collapsed man receiving CPR at the Nessel Township. After arriving at the scene, Edmonds used his car’s AED (automatic external defibrillator) to shock the young man twice in an effort to awaken his sleeping heart. Edmonds and his AED were successful in restoring a pulse, which led to the young man being taken to Cambridge Hospital in an ambulance.

The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency for the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program (say that five times fast) has awarded Chisago County with federal funds to help improve and expand emergency food/shelter programs in high need areas.
The Wildlife Management Area in Chisago County, just outside of North Branch, is expanding, adding 108 acres to the existing 223 acres. This Wildlife Management Area was established in honor of the late Janet Johnson, who died in 1999 of a malignant brain tumor at the young age of 59. This area was set up in her honor due to her being such an environment advocate. The Lessard Sams Grant was awarded to Chisago County by the Outdoor Heritage Fund; this money will be used to acquire the new land. One thing almost any shopper loves to hear is ‘outlet mall.’ The North Branch Outlets are packed full of outlet stores for Nike, Old Navy, GAP, Claire’s, Maurice’s, Levi’s, Zales Diamonds, Bath & Body Works, Furniture Mart, Toys R’ Us, and even more.
